     Our History

Flash: OFF

It all began back on February 8th, 1976.  That's when 24 people attended an "exploratory" meeting at the home of Ray and Betty Schmiech.  One week later a worship service was held at the Krager Bayshore Funeral home in Dunedin .  The presiding ministers were Pastor R. Wiechmann of Bay Pines Lutheran Church in Seminole and Pastor J. Meyer of Peace Lutheran in Holiday .  From there things moved swiftly.  The congregation was formally organized on June 29th, 1976.  A constitution was adopted.  The name "Christ The Lord" was chosen - a fine choice indeed!  Originally the church was comprised of seven families.

The first full-time shepherd of Christ The Lord was Keith Kruck who was installed on
February 13th, 1977.  He would serve the congregation faithfully and well for over a decade.  In July of 1978 the members purchased 3 acres where the church is currently located. A "WEF" (worship / education / fellowship) building was constructed in the summer of 1980.  This building still is used today as a Fellowship Hall and classroom for our Lutheran Elementary School .  In December of 1981 ground was broken for the construction of another building which would be used primarily for worship.  On Easter Sunday (April 11th) of 1982 the members joyfully praised the risen Savior in their new church!  We continue to use this sanctuary today.  It serves our needs quite well as it can seat over 200 people.

Over the years, Christ The Lord has been led by a number of different pastors.  Pastor Jeffery Luplow replaced Pastor Kruck and began his ministry here in June of 1988.  The Lord called him to leave Christ The Lord in September of 1990 to begin serving Zion Lutheran of Monroe, Michigan.  Pastor David Cooper, a missionary serving in Jupiter,
Florida , accepted the congregation's Call to become its third pastor.  He would serve faithfully for nearly five years before being called to serve St. Paul 's of Slinger, Wisconsin .  Jerry Kassebaum was installed in October of 1995.  He would shepherd the congregation until the fall of 2000 when he was led to accept a Call to Texas
.  Jeffrey Mahnke accepted the Call to serve as the fifth pastor of Christ The Lord.  He was installed on Palm Sunday of 2001.  In October of 2008 he accepted a Divine Call to serve as the outreach pastor at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schofield, Wisconsin.  He preached his last sermon here on Christmas Day, 2008.

Christ The Lord has always been concerned about feeding the lambs of Jesus his precious Word.  The congregation began a
Lutheran Elementary School in the fall of 1984 with seventeen children!  The first full time teacher and principal was Max Schram, who would serve the congregation for 4 years before accepting another Call.  He would be replaced by Daniel Johnson as principal and teacher.  When he accepted a Call to Shoreland Lutheran High School in Somers, Wisconsin , the congregation extended a Call to Peter Margraf.  He would accept the Call and be installed in August of 1993.  Three years later the congregation was assigned Daniel Brands, a graduate of Martin Luther College , to replace Mr. Margraf who had accepted a Call elsewhere.  Mr. Brands would serve the congregation faithfully until the summer of 2004 when he accepted a Call to St. John's Lutheran Church and School of Lannon, Wisconsin .  His replacement was Jason Schmidt, also a graduate of Martin Luther College .  He began his ministry in the summer of 2004.  In April of 2007 Mr. Schmidt accepted a Call to teach at Gethsemane Lutheran Church and School in Omaha, Nebraska .  The Lord then sent us, through our Synod's Assignment Committee, Mr. Jonathan Ross to be our next principal and upper grades teacher.  Mr. Ross is a 2005 graduate of Martin Luther College who has been serving as a dorm supervisor at California Lutheran High School
the past few years.

In addition to enjoying the faithful service of these six different principals the congregation has been also blessed by the following who served as full-time teachers in the
Lutheran Elementary School
:  Margaret Schram, Melissa Buelow, Dorcas Kassebaumn and Marti Ellingboe.  Currently, our teachers are Principal Jonathan Ross (2007 to present), Miss Jeannie Berger (2001 to present) and Mrs. Beth Walsh.

Classes are held in our Fellowship Hall and a large manufactured building that the congregation purchased in 2005.  This building has approximately 2100 square feet with two large classrooms and restrooms for boys and girls.  We thank the Lord for this excellent addition to our ministry.

On
Sunday, June 25th, 2006 the congregation observed our 30th anniversary with a special worship service.  Pastor David Priebe from Bay Pines Lutheran Church
in Seminole was our guest preacher.  Afterwards, an anniversary meal was enjoyed by many in our Fellowship Hall.

In August of 2008 our Christ  The Lord Lutheran School began its 25th year of feeding the precious lambs of Jesus.  We praise our Good Shepherd for his grace, and for the privilege of teaching the gospel to the children of our church and community.

May God continue to bless our gospel ministry to his glory and the eternal salvation of many people!
